The Dragon Who Fell from the Sky 🪽

Long ago, when dragons still crossed the skies above the sea, there lived one unlike any other.

He was immense and fearsome to behold, with scales that caught the light like ancient armour and teeth strong enough to guard the treasures entrusted to him. But those who knew his heart knew the truth: he was gentle. He never sought to frighten, never used his strength for cruelty, and never harmed what he had sworn to protect.

He was a guardian.

One night, something happened in the heavens, and the dragon fell from the sky.

He came down upon the coast with one great wing broken, leaving behind the beautiful celestial feathering that had carried him among the stars. Yet even in his fall, he did not rage. He did not turn bitter. He gathered himself beneath his broken wing and waited patiently for the tide.

The sea came to him.

And with it came the remnants of his long and ancient life.

Three teeth, once part of the proud smile of a guardian, became the teeth of legend. Ancient shards bearing mysterious markings seemed to whisper of a forgotten language. A little keyhole remained from the kingdom he had once watched over. A strange piece of pottery resembled a dragon's egg, as though life itself had been entrusted to his keeping.

Some pieces bore the marks of fire.

And among them was an old piece of gunflint, found on Prince Edward Island years ago, still carrying the tiny scar of the strike that once made it spark. Perhaps it was the last ember of the fire he carried within him.

Even the smallest treasures found their place: pale seafoam and clear glass, glistening like fragments of stars scattered around his resting place.

At the heart of it all lies the shard that began the story, I discovered on Prince Edward Island just last week. Its ancient pattern called to mind the scales of the dragon himself, and from that single piece, the rest of his story was gathered.

He may have fallen from the sky, but he did not fall from grace.

He remained what he had always been: powerful, gentle, faithful and brave.

And perhaps, beneath the sea and the turning tides, the Dragon Who Fell from the Sky is still resting beneath his broken wing, guarding his treasures quietly, waiting for the day he is needed again. 🪽

It's summertime here in Prince Edward Island so my newly made sea treasure frames are filled with a combination of new and old finds. My beach-combing collection goes back more than 20 years and even longer for my Mom. I like to rummage through her collection and oftentimes I find shards from the same vessel found years apart.

This frame is filled with real hand-collected sea treasures, not a print.

These colours are considered a rare found objects and each frame has the equivalent of months of collecting along the ocean coast.

Great gift idea! Perfect for the cottage or sea-themed wedding.

Please note* some of the shards have been smoothed mainly to remove rust/dirt and the odd sharp edge. This allows the colours and patterns to pop!

Sea Glass Origins: Genuine sea glass and sea pottery originate from fragments of broken bottles, tableware, or even shipwrecks, which are gradually tumbled by the ocean over many years. This natural process can take between 50 to 100 years, during which the fragments are smoothed into their characteristic rounded shapes and the glass acquires a distinctive frosted appearance, resulting from the gradual erosion of its original sheen.

The sea treasures are real therefore they may have minor imperfections and a slightly irregular shape.
