About
Welcome to Red Island Sea Glass!
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been drawn to collecting sea glass and other treasures from the shores of Prince Edward Island. Over the years, I’ve discovered an incredible array of colors, from the more common greens, whites, and browns to rare hues like red, orange, pink, yellow, and even black. Alongside these treasures, I’ve also unearthed unique combo-colored pieces, intact bottles, bottle stoppers, marbles, and beads.
Instead of keeping all these special finds to myself, I decided to share their beauty with the world. My journey began with creating jewelry, which required specific types of pieces. This left me with an abundance of stunning shards that were just as meaningful but less suited for jewelry. To showcase these treasures, I began crafting suncatchers and framed art, turning each piece into a story of the sea.
The Inspiration Behind My Shop Name
Prince Edward Island, or PEI, is a truly magical place surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean. Known as the "Red Island" because of its rich, red sandstone soil, it’s home to over 90 sandy beaches adorned with red sands, dunes, and dramatic sandstone cliffs.
For much of its history, the island relied on boats for transportation, making its shores witnesses to countless vessels, from humble fishing boats to grand ships. While some carried on to new horizons, others met their fate beneath the waves. Many of the sea glass pieces I collect might have originated from shipwrecks or historical ocean activity. Of course, some glass comes from less romantic sources, like discarded items, but I prefer imagining them as remnants of bygone ships like the Titanic!
PEI offers an abundance of sea glass and countless natural wonders. If you ever have the chance to visit, I encourage you to explore its beauty. If not, I hope my creations bring a piece of this extraordinary island to you, offering a glimpse into the treasures I’ve uncovered from the depths of time.
Thank you for visiting my shop,
