Centuries in the Sand

A gathering of sea glass and pottery where time and tide meet in quiet harmony. At the heart of the piece rests a bold aqua sea glass heart, smoothed by years in the ocean, surrounded by a mix of newly found treasures and cherished fragments from the past. Vibrant aqua tones and bright yellows move throughout the piece, bringing a sunlit energy that contrasts beautifully with its older elements.

Among them is a remarkable shard of English salt-glazed brown stoneware dating from the late 18th to early 19th century. Its texture and warmth offer a tangible connection to centuries gone by. Nearby, a partial sunflower and a delicate butterfly emerge from worn ceramic, echoing nature’s quiet persistence. Bright orange pottery adds even more warmth, while a rare terracotta heart anchors the piece with an earthy, grounded beauty.

Each fragment was shaped by different hands, different eras, and different journeys, only to be carried by the sea and reunited here. Together, they tell a story not of perfection, but of endurance, history, and the quiet magic of things that last.

You will receive the exact frame and sea treasures shown in the photos. Some of my other frames are made to order, while others are one of a kind like this one. Please read the full description or feel free to message me with any questions.

Dimensions: 10" x 10" white square frame with a glass cover. The inner sea glass section measures 5" x 5". Can be displayed on a tabletop or hung on the wall.

This piece is a great gift idea, perfect for a cottage, beach house, or sea-themed wedding.

It's summertime here on Prince Edward Island, so my newest sea treasure frames include both fresh beach finds and special pieces from my long-time collection. I’ve been beachcombing for over 20 years, and sometimes I even find matching shards years apart. I also love going through my mom’s collection, which dates back even further.

This artwork contains real, hand-collected sea treasures. It is not a print.

Many of the colors in this piece come from rare beach finds. Each frame represents months of collecting along the coastline.

Some shards have been gently smoothed to remove rust, dirt, or the occasional sharp edge. This helps highlight the color and detail of each piece.

Sea Glass Origins: Genuine sea glass and pottery are formed from broken bottles, dishes, or even shipwrecks. These fragments are naturally tumbled by the ocean over 50 to 100 years. Over time, they become smooth and frosted through the movement of sand, salt, and waves.

Each piece is unique and may include small imperfections or natural irregularities.
